Background
Grafton Group plc is an international business headquartered in Dublin and listed on the London Stock Exchange. Grafton group have ambitions to upgrade all their Chadwicks Stores in Ireland, to become more sustainable. They plan to do this by implementing upgraded fabric, fenestration, heating, cooling, lighting, ventilation systems and adding local onsite electrical generation (PV Panels). For this specific project, Chadwicks were completing a full store retrofit and energy upgrade of its Middleton store.
Project Description
SystemCore were appointed as the M&E consultant and the Sustainability consultant for the project. We were responsible for the full design of heating, cooling, ventilation, water, waste, lighting, power, BMS and communications. The systems were designed to future proof the store using the latest technological advancements. The lighting was all upgraded to low consumption LED fittings with automatic control. The heating and cooling utilised a hybrid of refrigerant (20%) and water (80%) based VRF system to minimise global warming potential associated with refrigerants. The ventilation system was controlled CO2 sensors to eliminate energy waste while ensuring adequate fresh air provision to the building.
Outcome
SystemCore delivered all energy upgrade initiatives on time, to budget and negotiated grant support for the project, which covered 23% of the energy upgrade initiatives; heat pumps, ventilation, BMS and windows.
