Ventilation Upgrade

Background
The process plant was consuming unnecessary energy from a constant speed AHU fans and a secondary recirculation fan. Cold air was being dumped at one side of the space only, causing discomfort to workers. Warm air was recirculated unnecessarily and thus energy wasted. Excess energy was consumed by the 3 fans, the oil boiler, and the chiller.
Project description
SystemCore designed an upgrade to greatly reduce the energy consumption, utilising the existing AHU, BMS and Ductwork. Recirculation fan was decommissioned and its ductwork was connected to the conditioned AHUs ventilation system. Existing AHU was modified through the BMS so that the fan speed modulates based on actual internal conditions. 3 motorised dampers linked to temperature sensors now control the fan speeds. Chiller controls were modified so that it could operate on a free cooling basis when the outside temperature is 14°C or less.
Outcome
Reduced energy consumption by 115,000 kWh and 142 Tonnes CO2. Annuals energy savings of €25,000 per annum achieved. Projects prioritised and 1st phase completed
